Meet Mibbi, a tiny imaginary creature who carries a little cloud wherever it goes. With a round cream-colored body, soft droplet-shaped ears, tiny feet, rosy cheeks, and a miniature cloud bag, Mibbi is designed to look sweet and whimsical without resembling any particular animal.

This amigurumi project uses mostly basic crochet techniques and small pieces, making it a fun project for crocheters who are comfortable working in continuous rounds.

Project Information

Skill level: Easy–Intermediate
Finished size: Approximately 13 cm tall
Crochet hook: 2.5 mm
Yarn: DK / light worsted yarn
Construction: Mostly continuous rounds
Main techniques: Magic ring, single crochet, increases and decreases

The finished size may vary depending on your yarn, hook, and tension.

Materials You'll Need

For this project, prepare:

  • Cream yarn for the head and body
  • Dusty pink yarn for the ears and cheeks
  • Pale blue yarn for the cloud bag
  • A small amount of dark yarn for embroidered eyes
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Pins for assembly

You can change the colors to create your own version of Mibbi.

Crochet Abbreviations

This pattern uses US crochet terminology.

MR — Magic ring
sc — Single crochet
inc — Increase
dec — Decrease
ch — Chain
sl st — Slip stitch
st / sts — Stitch / stitches
FO — Fasten off

The number in parentheses at the end of each round shows how many stitches you should have when the round is complete.

Head

Use cream yarn.

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc × 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, inc) × 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, inc) × 6 (24)
R5: (3 sc, inc) × 6 (30)
R6: (4 sc, inc) × 6 (36)
R7–12: sc around (36)
R13: (4 sc, dec) × 6 (30)
R14: (3 sc, dec) × 6 (24)

At this point, embroider two small closed eyes using dark yarn. Add two tiny dusty-pink cheek details below them.

Begin stuffing the head gradually.

R15: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18)
R16: (1 sc, dec) × 6 (12)
R17: dec × 6 (6)

Finish stuffing, close the opening, and fasten off.

The head should remain softly rounded rather than tightly overstuffed.

Body

Use cream yarn.

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc × 6 (12)
R3: (1 sc, inc) × 6 (18)
R4: (2 sc, inc) × 6 (24)
R5: (3 sc, inc) × 6 (30)
R6–10: sc around (30)
R11: (3 sc, dec) × 6 (24)
R12: sc around (24)
R13: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18)
R14: sc around (18)

Stuff the body firmly enough to hold its shape, but don't overfill it.

Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing the body to the head.

Droplet Ears — Make 2

The long droplet-shaped ears are one of Mibbi's main features.

Use dusty pink yarn.

R1: 4 sc in MR (4)
R2: (1 sc, inc) × 2 (6)
R3: (2 sc, inc) × 2 (8)
R4: (3 sc, inc) × 2 (10)
R5–7: sc around (10)
R8: (3 sc, dec) × 2 (8)
R9–10: sc around (8)

Do not stuff the ears.

Flatten each ear gently and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

When attached, the ears should hang slightly outward rather than standing upright.

Tiny Arms — Make 2

Use cream yarn.

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2–5: sc around (6)

Add only a tiny amount of stuffing to the bottom of each arm.

Flatten the opening and fasten off with a long sewing tail.

Tiny Feet — Make 2

Use cream yarn.

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc × 6 (12)
R3–4: sc around (12)
R5: (2 sc, dec) × 3 (9)

Add a small amount of stuffing.

Flatten the upper opening slightly and leave a long sewing tail.

The feet should appear rounded at the front and small compared with the body.

Mibbi's Little Cloud Bag

Now we'll make the accessory that gives Mibbi its Cloud Keeper personality.

Use pale blue yarn.

First Cloud Puff

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc × 6 (12)
R3: sc around (12)

Fasten off.

Second Cloud Puff

Repeat the same three rounds, but don't fasten off.

Join the two small puffs with several single crochet stitches.

Continue crocheting around the combined shape for one round to create a tiny soft cloud silhouette.

Add a very small amount of stuffing before closing the opening.

Fasten off.

Bag Strap

Using pale blue yarn, make a chain long enough to run diagonally across Mibbi's body.

Starting with approximately 30 chains is a useful reference, but check the strap against your finished doll before fastening off because tension and finished size can vary.

Attach one end of the strap to each side of the cloud.

Assemble Mibbi

Don't sew immediately.

First arrange all the completed pieces around the body:

  • Head above the body
  • One droplet ear on each side of the head
  • Arms at the upper sides of the body
  • Feet underneath
  • Cloud bag crossing diagonally over the front

Pin everything temporarily.

Look at Mibbi from the front and both sides. Adjust the pieces until the character looks balanced.

Sew the head securely to the body first. Then attach the ears, arms, and feet.

Finally, place the cloud-bag strap over one shoulder and position the little cloud near the opposite side of the body.

Add Mibbi's Expression

Mibbi's face is intentionally simple.

Embroider two small curved closed eyes with dark yarn or embroidery thread. Add tiny dusty-pink cheek stitches beneath them.

A small embroidered mouth can be added between the cheeks, or you can leave it out for an even simpler expression.

Keep the facial details small so they don't overpower the character.

Finishing Touches

Check every seam and weave loose yarn ends securely into the doll.

Gently shape the head, body, and feet with your fingers. Flatten the droplet ears slightly so they keep their soft hanging shape.

Adjust the cloud bag so it sits naturally across Mibbi's body rather than covering the face or arms.

Your little Cloud Keeper is finished.

Make Your Own Mibbi

Once you've made the original version, changing the colors can give the character a completely different personality.

Try a lavender body with a cream cloud, a pale-green Mibbi with a yellow cloud, or use leftover yarn to create your own combination.

You could even crochet several Mibbis, each carrying a different tiny accessory.

Final Thoughts

Mibbi was designed as a small fantasy amigurumi character made from simple shapes. The project gives you practice with crocheting in rounds, increasing, decreasing, stuffing, embroidery, sewing pieces together, and making a small accessory.

Most importantly, your finished Mibbi doesn't have to look exactly like anyone else's. Small differences in yarn, tension, embroidery, and positioning can give every Cloud Keeper its own personality.
